Three meet marks were established on the second day of the eighth National youth athletics meet at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium at Ranchi on Saturday.

Kundan Inder Singh of Haryana eclipsed the pole vault mark in boys' under-18 category with an effort of 4.41m. The old mark stood at 4.30m in the name of Parminder Kumar set at Madurai in 2009, according to information received here.

Another Haryana lad Naveen Kumar rewrote boys' under-18 javelin mark with an effort of 70.02m which was better than his statemate Sandeep's record of 63.46m set at Warangal in 2006.

Sandeep dominates

Sandeep of Haryana dominated the 400m race for boys' U-18 with a record time of 47.65s which obliterated N.P. Vinu's mark of 48.38s set at Jamshedpur in 2004.

Kerala's Jijin Vijayan and Bihar's Sunanda Sarkar emerged the fastest on the opening day on Friday. Jijin (11.23s) and Sunanda (12.31s) went under the qualifying norms fixed by the IAAF for the world meet.

A few more athletes also achieved the qualifying norms but the finalisation of the Indian contingent for the world youth meet at Lillie, France, in July would be done only after the selection committee meets at Delhi next month.

As many as 394 athletes are participating in the three-day meet.
