TASHKENT: Tara Iyer made the singles quarterfinals and the doubles semifinals of the Asian tennis championship here on Wednesday.

Tara, the only Indian to make the singles quarterfinals, outplayed Nigora Sirodjiddinova of Uzbekistan 6-2, 6-1.

Later, Tara in partnership with Rushmi Chakravarthi outplayed Nigora and Sariya Khyrova for the loss of two games.

Men: Singles (pre-quarterfinals): Tatsuma Ito (Jpn) bt Karan Rastogi 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(5); Vaja Uzakov (Uzb) bt Aditya Madkekar 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Doubles (quarterfinals): Ashutosh Singh and Vivek Shokeen bt Aqeel Khan (Pak) and Aditya Madkekar 3-6, 6-3, 12-10.

Women: Singles (pre-quarterfinals): Albina Khabibulina (Uzb) bt Rushmi Chakravarthi 6-2, 7-5; Tara Iyer bt Nigora Sirodjiddinova (Uzb) 6-2, 6-1. Doubles (quarterfinals): Rushmi Chakravarthi and Tara Iyer bt Sariya Khyrova and Nigora Sirodjiddinova (Uzb) 6-1, 6-1.
