Rourkela: Tamil Nadu booked a semifinal berth in the fourth junior National women's (under-19) football championship when it edged out Goa 1-0 in a group-A quarterfinal league match here on Saturday.
J. Rani Prasanna booted in the only goal of the tie at the stroke of half-time.
This was Tamil Nadu's second straight win in group-A having beaten Punjab 2-1 in an earlier match to garner four points.
In another tie of the group, Bengal drew goalless against Punjab.
Having won its previous tie against Goa 3-0, Bengal now has three points with a match in hand against Tamil Nadu.
Both Bengal and Punjab, who will meet Goa in their last group match, have a chance to enter the last four.
The Bengal-Punjab encounter was keenly contested with both teams spurning several good openings to score. Duli goon excelled for Bengal.
Orissa and Manipur have already entered the semifinals from group-B with two wins each and would meet each other tomorrow to decide the group leaders. - PTI
