THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 38th inter-district and 57th Kerala State table tennis championship will be held at the YMCA, Alappuzha, from November 12 to 16.
The inter-district tournament will be held in men, women, youth, junior, sub-junior and cadet categories respectively.
From this year, the Kerala State table tennis association has decided to follow the format used in nationals in the men’s singles and junior boy’s singles.
As per the format, the top 16 ranked players will be directly placed in the main draw. The remaining players will be divided into groups of three and four players each. They will play the qualification matches in a round robin league format. One player from each group will qualify for the main draw which will held on a knock-out basis.
All remaining individual events will be played on a knock-out format. The draw of the championship will be held on November 10.
UC College in semifinals
Host Union Christian College defeated St. Albert’s College (Ernakulam) 3-2 and entered the men’s semifinals of the 17th Dr. A.K. Baby South India inter-collegiate hockey tournament which began at Aluva on Monday. The host led 2-1 at the break.
The result: UC College 3 (Vineesh Kumar 20th, Rameez Rahim 34th. A. S. Salag 44th) bt St. Albert’s 2 (Taison George 27th, Nikhil Raveendran 58th).
It’s Kozhikode vs Thiruvananthapuram
Host Kozhikode will meet Thiruvananthapuram in the final of the State senior women’s cricket championship at the Corporation Stadium at Kozhikode on Tuesday. In the semifinals on Monday, Kozhikode beat Malappuram by eight wickets, while Thiruvananthapuram defeated Kollam by nine wickets.
Malappuram 43 in 45.4 overs (Prajula three for six) lost to Kozhikode 44 for two in 15.2 overs.
Kollam 52 in 33.3 overs (T.P. Soniya Mol three for 22) lost to Thiruvananthapuram 53 for one in 9.4 overs.
