St. Mary’s HS, Pattom defeated St. George HS, Edappally to win the KCA inter-school State championships at the Fort Maidan here on Friday.

Batting first, St. George was restricted to 143 for nine off 45 overs. Shameel guided St. Mary’s home with an unbeaten 48 as it won with more than nine overs to spare.

The scores: St. George HS, Edappally 143 for nine in 45 overs (Liston Augustine 37) lost to St. Mary’s HS, Pattom 144 for four in 35.4 overs (Shameel 48 n.o., F. Fanoos 39).

Bhenix moves up

Bhenix CC and Fighters CC moved into the second round of the 18th Celestial Trophy all-Kerala cricket tournament at the Medical College ground on Friday.

Bhenix CC defeated Classic CC by five wickets while Fighters scored a 50-run win over TCU.

In another match at Agriculture College ground, Marshals CC defeated Yuva CC by five wickets.

The scores: Classic CC 184 for six in 25 overs (Arun Sasidharan 73, Biju James 38) lost to Bhenix CC 187 for five in 23 overs (S. Renjith 43, B. Kannan 42, T.G. Abhilash 37).

Fighters CC 157 for eight in 24 overs (Pradeep 34, Renjith three for 22) bt TCU 107 in 19.4 overs (Hari 32, Prathap Chandran five for 22, Amit three for 13).

Yuva CC 97 in 26.1 overs (Ali three for 21) lost to Marshals CC 98 for five in 19.1 overs.

ONGC triumphs

ONGC, Dehradun, defeated ICF, Chennai, 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21 to win the men’s title in the Red Star all-India volleyball tournament at Ambalathara (Kanhangad) on Thursday.

Earlier, KSEB, Thiruvnananthapuram, won the women’s event, defeating Southern Railway, Chennai, 16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 15-7.
