NEW DELHI: Continuing its discussions on the draft National Sports Policy, the Union Sports Ministry on Wednesday held a meeting with the representatives of the State governments. Twenty-four States attended the meeting.
“There was a positive response” to the draft policy, said a ministry spokesman. He added that the emphasis during the discussions was on states and the Centre providing infrastructure facilities and some competitions at the grass-roots levels.
On the question of bringing sports into the Concurrent List of the Constitution, more than seven States informed that they had already taken a decision to support such a move while the others stated they would have to go back and discuss the matter.
The ministry has convened another meeting here on August 28 in which Arjuna awardees and Dronacharya awardees are expected to attend.
