NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry on Wednesday criticised the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Secretary-General Randhir Singh for approaching the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over the Government order on the tenure of office-bearers in various sports bodies.
“It has to be regrettably emphasised that Randhir Singh, who is an independent member from India on the IOC, has clearly a conflict of interest on the tenure issue, in view of his 23-year-long continuous tenure as Secretary-General of IOA. Further, it is noted with regret that the IOC member did not consult the Government before approaching the IOC,” a communication from the Sports Ministry said.
“The IOC too did not seek any inputs from the Government before its NOC Relations Director sent the letter to Radhir Singh, who in turn, has sent it to the Government in his dual capacity,” the communication added. — Sports Reporter
