Fifth-seeded Sowjanya Bavisetti of Andhra Pradesh ended the run of her doubles partner and top-seeded Treta Bhattacharyya of Bengal in the women's quarterfinals of the SPS Elegant Central Excise AITA Open grasscourt tennis here on Thursday.

In another big upset, unseeded Tanisha Rohira of Karnataka beat fourth seeded state-mate Prerna Prathap in straight sets.

Another unseeded player Nithyaraj Baburaj of Tamil Nadu sent the sixth seed Saadgi Rajani of Gujarat packing.

In the men's section top-seeded Mithun Murali of Tamil Nadu had it easy against local challenger Biplab Das while third-seeded Saurav Sukul of Bengal trounced qualifier Sagar Manjanna of Karnataka to reach the semifinals.

Women: Quarterfinals: Sowjanya Bavisetti (AP) bt Treta Bhattacharyya (Ben) 6-3, 4-6, 6-3; Tanisha Rohira (Kar) bt Prerna Prathap (Kar) 6-4, 6-4; Amrita Mukherjee (Ben) bt Om Lata Kumari Rai (UP) 6-0, 6-3; Nithyaraj Baburaj (TN) bt Saadgi Rajani (Guj) 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
