HYDERABAD: Powered by Devraj's hat-trick, South Zone drubbed West Zone 6-0 in the inaugural match of the 35th all-India FCI inter-zonal football tournament at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Monday.
Devraj struck in the fourth, 22nd and 26th minutes to give the host a convincing 3-0 lead. Just before the break Jai Kumar scored the fourth goal. In the second session, Krishna Kumar and Vijayan netted one each in the space of one minute to seal the rival's fate.
In the second match of the evening, North-East Zone recorded a 2-0 win against Headquarters (Delhi) with K. Rava striking once in each session. Earlier, P. Krishna Babu, MD, AP Markfed, inaugurated while A.S. Chhabra, ED, South Zone (FCI) and A.N. Murthy, deputy manager (FCI, AP), also graced the occasion along with former Asian Games gold medallist Shiny Wilson.
Kadapa to host
Kadapa will host the National youth handball championship for boys and girls (under-19) from January 27 to 31, according to M. Ramachandra Reddy, organising secretary. Twenty-six states will vie for top honours.

AP wins bronze
The Andhra Pradesh team comprising V. Rajesh, M. Suresh, A.R. Anil Kumar and B. Rupesh picked a bronze in the 1,500m team time trial in the boys under-19 years category with a timing of 1:58.551 in the National cycling championship in Patiala on Monday, according to information received here.
