Madurai: Sourashtra College retained the Sri Bhandari Trophy for the fifth successive year defeating Arulanadar College, Karumathur, 6-1 in the final of the Maduria Kamaraj University B Zone inter-collegiate hockey tournament at Thirunagar Anna Park Hockey ground here on Wednesday.

Rajesh Kannan and Solai Arasu scored a brace each while Ponraj and Sathyaseelan scored one each for the winner. Arockiaraj scored the only goal for Arulanandar.

Earlier in the semifinals, four goals, including a hat-trick, by Rajesh Kannan, a brace by Krishnamurthy and a goal each by Sathyaseelan and Solai Arasu enabled Sourashtra College crush Madura College 8-0. Arulanandar College posted a 4-1 win over GTN Arts College, Dindigul.

Don Bosco (2), Britto Loyola Rajesh and Satheesh scored for Arulanandar. Prabu scored the only goal for GTN.

Easy win

Host, Arulanandar College posted a comfortable 3-0 victory over S.R. Naidu College, Sattur, in the inaugural match of the Rev. Fr. J. Prince Memorial Trophy State-level inter-collegiate football tournament at Karumathur near here on Wednesday.

Volleyball tournament

The fourth annual Kamarajar Memorial Trophy State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament will be conducted by Nadar Mahajana Sangam S. Vellaichamy Nadar College at its grounds, Nagamalai, from September 5 to 7.

MSP Solai Nadar advances

MSP Solai Nadar Matriculation HSS, riding on Madhukannan's inspired play, posted a 69-61 victory over Government HSS, Batlagundu, and entered the semifinal round-robin league of the sixth annual Kalimark K.P. Rajendran Trophy State-level inter-school basketball tournament organised by Idayam Rajendran Residential School here on Wednesday.

Others to enter the semifinal league were NSVV HSS (Patveeranpatti), American College HSS (Madurai) and MNU Jeyaraj Nadar HSS (Nagamalai).

Sabithabai HSS wins

Sabithabai (Kovai) HSS, Thirunagar, won the title in the boys' under-17 section in the SDAT-district-level hockey tournament for boys and girls organised by Hockey Talent Development Academy at Vadipatti near Madurai on Wednesday.

At Virudhunagar, Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, Krishnan Kovil, clinched the title defeating National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, 16-15 in the final of the Anna University zone-10 inter-engineering women's basketball tournament at Virudhunagar Kamaraj College of engineering ground on Tuesday.

Subash takes title

At Coimbatore, M. Subash of Loyola College (Chennai) bounced back from the brink to score a 9-11, 4-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 11-6, 12-10 win over Manoranjan Singh of PSG College of Arts and Science to lift the men's singles title in the 35th State-level inter-collegiate table tennis tournament for the PSG Trophy at the PSGCAS premises here on Wednesday.
