Coimbatore: Host SNR Sons College notched up a seven-wicket win over Kongunadu College of Arts and Science in the final of the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate Zone ‘A’ cricket tournament at the SNR grounds here on Thursday.

After restricting the visitor to 137 for eight, the host scored the required runs in a shade less than 20 overs. Earlier, Bharathiar University Departments, thanks to fine knock of 97 by Sampath, defeated KG College of Arts and Science by 52 runs and wrested the third spot.

Final: Kongunadu CAS 137 for eight in 25 overs (Dilip 45, Harish 35) lost to SNR Sons 138 for three in 19.3 overs. Third place: Bharathiar University Departments 183 for seven in 25 overs (Sampath 97, Prabhakaran three for 36) bt KG CAS 131 for nine in 25 overs (Prabhakaran 34, Karthick three for 14, Naresh four for 19).

Nirmala, NGP post wins

Nirmala and Dr. NGP won both their league matches with relative ease in the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate ball badminton tournament for women at the Kamban College of Arts and Science on Thursday.

Badminton camp

Theni Tigers defeated Friends XI by 53 runs in a first round match of the Theni DCA Twenty20 cricket tournament for the Balu Alaganan Trophy at Theni on Thursday.
