Smit Singh came up with a 24 in the third round to be placed 41{+s}{+t}after three rounds with a total of 69 in men’s skeet in the shotgun world championship in Lima, Peru.

Mairaj Ahmad Khan, with a 68, was 55th in the 71-shooter field.

Among the juniors, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka (68) was in the 14{+t}{+h}spot while Karam Sukbir Singh (63) and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa (61) were 29th and 30th respectively in a field of 33.

The men’s skeet event, spread over three days, will have two more rounds, followed by the final.

In the women’s final, the 32-year-old Christine Wenzel of Germany pipped Simona Scocchetti of Italy 15-12 in the gold medal contest to win her fourth successive world championship crown. Both qualified in the shoot-off for the semifinals with a score of 72 in the preliminary phase.

India did not field any shooter, including juniors, in women’s skeet.
