VIJAYAWADA: A brilliant 100 by Sk. Hussain of Arjun XI was the highlight of the drawn encounter against Praveen XI in the Matrix Labs ACA Central Zone selection (Ranji) cricket tournament for the S. Mastan Rao Trophy, which concluded here on Wednesday.

Arjun XI 172 and 432 for five (Ch. Ramesh 123, Sk. Hussain 100, M. Chidambareswara Rao 82, Swaroop 86) drew with Praveen XI 159.

M.S.K. Prasad to lead

Former India wicketkeeper, M.S.K. Prasad, will lead the Central Zone team in the ACA inter-zonal tournament for the Rattaiah Trophy (one-day) and Venkatagiri Trophy (three-day) to be held in Visakhapatnam from September 18 to October 7.

Inter-district hockey

The 20th State inter-district hockey championship for sub juniors (under-16) will be held at Nandyal, Kurnool district, from September 8 to 11, according to the Andhra Hockey Association Secretary, M. Niranjan Reddy.

The Andhra team to take part in the 13th National sub-junior championship to be held at Bhopal from September 27 to October 6 will be selected during the meet.

The team will undergo a two-week coaching camp at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli astro-turf stadium before leaving for Bhopal.

Five coaches for city

The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP), under the Kreeda Sikshana scheme, has granted five coaches to the Krishna District Sports Authority in judo, boxing, badminton, table tennis and gymnastics, according District Sports Development Officer, B. Sudhakar.

The badminton coach will be attached to Machilipatnam Stadium, while gymnastics coach is allotted to Mylavaram Sports Complex. Judo and Boxing coaches will operate at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, while table tennis coach is attached to the Patamata Indoor Stadium, Vijayawada.
