CHENNAI: S. Sivananda of Loyola College beat his doubles partner R. Abishek 11-7, 12-10, 11-6, 11-6 in the final of the table tennis singles event of the Bertram Memorial tournament at Loyola College on Wednesday.

Sivananda, who took the first game easily, stumbled in the second. Abishek led 10-8 but was unable to shut his opponent out; Sivananda came back to win four straight points and the game 12-10.

A disheartened Abishek was unable to recover, and Sivananda confidently raced through the remaining two games. R.S. Raja and Raghuram of SSN won the doubles title.

Singles: Final: S. Sivananda (Loyola) bt R. Abishek (Loyola) 11-7, 12-10, 11-6, 11-6.

Semifinals: R. Abishek bt R.S. Raja (SSN) 7-11, 9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-8, 11-7; S. Sivananda bt S. Ramnath (St. Joseph’s) 11-6, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6.

Doubles: Final: R.S. Raja & Raghuram (SSN) bt R. Senthil Kumar & Vivek Prasad (Santhome) 11-7, 11-9, 11-4.

Semifinals: Raja & Raghuram bt R. Abishek & Sivananda (Loyola) 11-13, 11-6, 11-5, 11-13, 11-9; Senthil Kumar & Vivek Prasad (Santhome) bt M.H. Kalvath & N. Vishal (Loyola) 11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 13-11.
