The 38th National women’s sports competitions (Group III) in athletics, badminton and table tennis got underway at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium here on Wednesday. The four-day meet will see participation from close to 500 athletes from 23 States across India.
In the evening’s first event, K.C. Shruthi of Karnataka clocked four minutes, 34.5 seconds to win the 1,500m event. The 400m hurdles witnessed a close finish with Punjab’s Bhupinder Kaur (1:04.00s) pipping T.S. Kavitha of Tamil Nadu (1:04.70s) to claim victory.
