The founder member of the Nehru Hockey Society, Shiv Kumar Verma, died here on Tuesday morning, following ailment for the last few months. He was 88.

Associated with the activities of the Nehru Hockey Society for 47 years, Verma, who later became the honorary secretary and administrator of the society, was instrumental in ensuring the inclusion of junior, sub-junior and champion colleges tournaments.

He ensured that the Nehru hockey tournament for men was held every year from its inception in 1964.

The secretary of the Nehru Hockey Society, Kukoo Walia admired the remarkable enthusiasm of Verma in making a significant contribution for the game without getting anything in return.

Diversifying from hockey, Verma also served as the secretary of the Korfball Federation of India, in one spell.

The cremation will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, at the Sat Nagar Cremation ground, Karol Bagh.
