Shere-E-Punjab posted its sixth win of the World Series Hockey championship scoring a 5-3 win over Bhopal Badshahs here on Saturday.
The home team now has increased its tally to 19 points from nine matches.
Inderjit Singh put the Punjab team ahead converting a penalty corner in the 35th minute and Mandeep Antil added to the tally making full use of another short corner conversion in the 41th minute. A minute later Gagan Ajit Singh struck from a field goal.
The Badshahs, not giving up the fight got back into the game when Casey Henwood sounded the board in the 46th minute. However, Matthew Hotchkis strike in the 57th minute kept Sher-E-Jalandhar well ahead in the match.
The match was far from over though, as Lalit Kumar Upadhyay (66th minute) and Shailendra Singh Bundela converting a penalty corner in the 68th minute for the Badshahs. But that was as far as they went.
Lions down Marines
On Friday, Karnataka Lions beat Mumbai Marines 4-2 with a rip-roaring display of attacking hockey.
Three field goals inspired by captain Arjun Halappa, playing the tireless raider, and drag-flicker Len Aiyappa muscling in with one direct penalty corner conversion snuffed out the home side's hopes of a fightback.
Mumbai focused on ball possession to build pressure on rivals, relaying the ball between defence and midfield.
The result: Sher-E-Jalandhar 5 (Inderjit Singh, Mandeep Antil, Gagan Ajit Singh, Matthew Hotchkis 57) bt Bhopal Badshahs 3 (Casey Henwood, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Shailendra Singh Bundela).
