Posts come-from-behind victory over Sports School (Vidyanagar)
BANGALORE: Shantiniketan (BTM) boys made it three in a row with a come-from-behind victory over Sports School (Vidyanagar) to claim the Yashodamma memorial Trophy in the high schools volleyball tournament, conducted by the Karnataka Volleyball Association (KVA), at the Sree Kanteerava stadium outdoor courts here on Friday. Shantiniketan won 13-25, 25-16, 15-11.
The Sports School girls avenged their loss to Carmel Convent in the last tournament with a 25-21, 25-9 verdict in the final.
The Shantiniketan boys, who had claimed the Kumarans Trophy and Soundarya Cup in the preceding weeks, suffered a jolt as the SSV boys ran away with the first set at 25-12. The twins — Pramod and Praveen Choudhary — were erratic at the beginning and the rest too were in disarray.
Once the twin brothers found their rhythm, the solid blocks that Suraj managed for SSV in the first set crumbled.
From 4-all and 9-all, Shantiniketan cruised to victory 25-16, 15-11 in the second and third sets.
Satish and Syed Farwan played well in patches for SSV.
SSV girls win
The girls’ final proved a mismatch as the SSV team carried too many guns for the Carmel side.
Arpitha and Monica both unleashed some telling smashes and the Carmel girls caved in after putting up some resistance in the first set.
Nikita George stood out once again for Carmel but got little support from her teammates.
Third for Stella Mary’s
Stella Mary’s clinched the third place with a hard-fought win over St. Mary’s, while the A.V. Education boys got a walkover from Gandhi Vidyashala.
