NEW DELHI: Shafiq Khan (79) and R.S. Sodhi (47) put on 125 for the fourth wicket to help Air India register a four-wicket victory over South Delhi Colts in a pre-quarterfinal match of the 37th Goswami Ganesh Dutt memorial cricket tournament at the St. Stephen's College ground on Tuesday.

Asked to bat, South Delhi struggled at 89 for six, but a 140-run partnership between Nischal Gaur (81) and Gaurav Gambhir (54) steered the team to a good total.

In reply, Air India lost three wickets for 51 before Shafiq and Sodhi joined forces for the 11-time champion. Naman Sharma (23 not out) and Sachin Rana (20 not out) guided the team home with five balls to spare.

There will be no match on Wednesday.

The scores: South Delhi Colts 229 for eight in 40 overs (Nischal Gaur 81, Gaurav Gambhir 54, Mohammed Arif 32) lost to Air India 233 for six in 39.1 overs (Shafiq Khan 79, R.S. Sodhi 47, Chandan Madan 27, Manish Bhatia three for 50) .
