West Bengal’s Sayantan Das, the former under-12 world champion, won the 24th National under-17 chess title with a round to spare at Dibrugarh, Assam, on Thursday.
The top-seeded Sayantan drew his penultimate round game against Tamil Nadu’s fourth-seeded N.R. Vignesh and is assured of the title since he has a 1.5-point lead over his nearest rivals.
Sayantan has 8.5 points from ten rounds while Vignesh, Delhi’s Prince Bajaj and TN’s Akash P.C. Iyer are in the second spot with 7 points.
