NEW DELHI: Commonwealth Youth Games champion G. Sathiyan and National junior runner-up Soumyajit Ghosh will be part of a promising four-member Indian team in the boys section of the South-Asian junior table tennis championship and the 15th Asian junior championship to be held at Jaipur between July 20 and 26.
The Indians in all four team events — junior boys, junior girls, cadet boys and cadet girls — are expected to defend the titles in the two-day South Asian championship and qualify, along with the runner-up, for the Asian junior championship that follows from July.
Among the junior girls, Indian Open Youth champion Ankita Das heads the four-member team.
The Asian meet offers four spots for the team events of the next World junior table tennis championship.
The squad: Junior boys: G. Sathiyan, Soumyajit Ghosh, Raj Mondal and Harmeet Desai. Junior girls: Ankita Das, Mallika Bhandarkar, Shreya Ghosh and Charvi Kavle.
Cadet boys: Sandipan Dey, Rajeev Sarkar, Abhishek Yadav and Utkarsh Gupta. Cadet girls: Mallika Bhatnagar, T. R. Rishiya, ,Camila Sil and Monika Batra.
Coaches: Sunil Babras, Mantu Ghosh and V.K. Agarwal.
