Rajasthan Royals’ star Sanju Viswanadh Samson and V.A. Jagadeesh, the Kerala opener, who became the highest run-getter in India’s domestic season this past season, hogged the limelight at the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) awards night at the Tagore Centenary Hall here on Thursday.
Jagadeesh walked away with the awards for the Cricketer of the Year and the Best Batsman, for the 1423 runs he made from three formats for Kerala. He also won the award for outstanding individual performance in 2012-13, along with Sandeep Warrier and C.P. Shahid. Jagadeesh was also presented the Best Batsman award for 2011-12.
Sanju won the award for the exceptional performance in various categories for 2012-13 and for the Under-19 category in 2011-12. Players who performed well in the last two seasons, in various age-categories, were honoured.
There were awards for women cricketers too. T. Shani was the Woman Cricketer of 2012-13 and S. Asha of 2011-12.
The men’s and women’s teams were also rewarded for their exceptional performances in 2012-13.
The awards night was inaugurated by M.K. Raghavan, MP, who, in his speech offered the KCA help to build a new cricket stadium in the city.
