Rajasthan Royals has signed Kerala Ranji Trophy player Sanju V.Samson for the upcoming IPL season.

Sanju, who became the youngest century-maker for the State in Ranji Trophy this season, becomes the third player from Kerala to join the IPL bandwagon.

The IPL call up has come after a prolific season for the 18-year-old who notched up two centuries in the Ranji Trophy and another two tons in the under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy.

Sanju, who attended the trials in the last week of January, was consistent in all the three games he played as an opener and impressed captain Rahul Dravid and Rajasthan Royals’ coach Paddy Upton.

“I was lucky that I could perform to best of my abilities in the trails. I had nothing to lose and my mind was blank. I played without any pressure and scored runs in all the three innings.

“After the trials, Rahul Dravid came to me and said I played well. It was a big honour for me,” he said.

The youngster, who was in the KKR developmental squad last year, is grateful to fast bowler Sreesanth for recommending his name to the Rajasthan Royals management.

“I indebted to Sreesanth. If not for him I wouldn’t have got a chance to attend the trials. Sreesanth put in a word for me. He has always encouraged and supported me,” Sanju said.

Sanju, who is being coached by SAI coach Biju George, is thrilled at the thought that he would be sharing the dressing room with a legend like Dravid.

“I am thrilled and definitely looking forward to that. It will be a good learning experience and an opportunity of a lifetime to observe a legend like Rahul Dravid from close quarters,” he said.
