NEW DELHI: Left-arm seamer Pradeep Sangwan has been named in the Delhi squad for the forthcoming North Zone one-day league. At a meeting held at the Ferozeshah Kotla here on Thursday, the selectors heeded to the request of skipper Virender Sehwag to blood this youngster in recognition for the hard work he has put in at the junior level.

Sehwag was keen to push Sangwan into the Ranji Trophy stage this season but did not find support from the selectors.

"I think we need to look ahead and that's the reason why we chose to pick Sangwan. He is a promising youngster and has the pace to make an impact at the first class level," said Atul Wassan, Chariman, Delhi Selection Committee.

The Delhi selectors refused to yield to pressure from the Sports Committee to include non-performing off-spinner Yogesh Sachdeva. The selection committee though placed Sachdeva in the stand-by list and decided to go in with just one slow bowler in leg-spinner Chetnya Nanda.

Since the matches are to be held in Mohali and Chandigarh, the selectors were happy to include only one spinner even though Abhinav Bali can be asked to chip in with his left-arm spin.

The North Zone one-day league begins from February 10.
