KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan named goalkeeper Sangram Mukherjee as captain for the ensuing football season. Seasoned defender and India player Dipak Mondal will be his deputy.
The club will also have a new assistant coach — former international Mridul Banerjee — after the incumbent Satyajit Chatterjee resigned. Mridul will assist the team’s Moroccan coach Karim Bencherifa, who returned from Singapore after attending a coaching course.
Bagan also registered a clutch of players — Mickey Fernandes (from Sporting Clube de Goa), Manish Mathani (Indian National FC, Delhi), Mashangva Genius Zenith (Churchill Brothers), and Rino Antao, Branco Vincent Cardozo and Lalramluaha — for the upcoming season.
Chirag United, another I-League side playing in the premier division of the Calcutta Football League, roped in Sandip Nandy (Mahindra United), Gouranga Biswas (Air India), Shylo Malswam Tulunga (Mohun Bagan), and Rahul Kumar, Narugopal Hait and Sukhen Dey.
Two Brazilians — Eduardo Chacon (Salgaocar SC) and Josimar da Silva Martins (National AC, Brazil) — are also likely to figure in the Chirag ranks.
Meanwhile, East Bengal announced a tie-up with Calcutta Medical Research Institute which will provide medical back-up to the team for the next three seasons.
Apart from providing doctors who will travel with the team, CMRI will have a medical booth at the ground. — Principal Correspondent
