HYDERABAD: Sanaa Bhambri made short work of Septi Mende 6-2, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $10,000 International Tennis Federation women's circuit tournament at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh complex here on Wednesday. The only other Indian to join Sanaa in the round of eight was Isha Lakhani, a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Korea's Cho Jeong-A.
Sanaa effectively shut her opponent out of the contest, her thumping returns of serve rendering the Indonesian's foremost weapon quite ineffective. Though slightly built, the Delhi southpaw called the shots against her stocky rival, after distancing herself with a 4-1 lead in the opening set.
Easy for Stefanie
Stefanie Voegele's fine run continued on court one, as she steamrollered Punam Reddy 6-0, 6-3. With aces aplenty and an impressive array of serves, there was never a doubt of the Swiss lass' dominance in the first set.
Punam showed resistance in the second set, the lanky Hyderabadi even broke her opponent in the third game. That resilience was however short-lived as Voegele's relentless assault showed no signs of a let-up, forcing Punam to cave in.
