Salgaocar SC downed Churchill 4-3 to maintain the second spot after eighth round of the I-League football here.
Salgaocar had the first chance to take the lead in the 16th minute, but Yusif Yakubu failed to beat the rival goalkeeper Lalit Thapa in a one-on-one situation.
Churchill, which looked more thrust-full in its attack, got a jolt as Odafe Okolie had to leave the field after pulling a calf muscle. But it took the lead in the 20th minute.
Robert Lalthlamuana, from the left, split the defence and gave a through pass to Kayne Vincent who uncorked an angular drive to find the net. Salgaocar scored the equaliser in the 27th minute when defender Jaspal Parmar received a pass from Ryuji's free kick. Luciano Sobrosa then put Salgaocar ahead in the 31st minute with a header off a flag kick taken by Ryuji Sueoka from the right.
But Churchill found the equaliser again a minute later when Israil Gurung scored. — PTI
