India’s Saina Nehwal came back from a set down while compatriot P.V. Sindhu had it easy as the pair entered the second round of the Star Australian Super Series badminton tournament here on Wednesday.
Saina will take on compatriot P.C. Thulasi, who overcame USA’s Jamie Subandhi 21-16, 21-18 in another women’s singles first-round match.
World No. 9 Saina, seeded sixth here, lost the first game but rallied well to beat unseeded Sun Yu of China 22-24, 21-17, 21-10 in an hour and 15 minutes. Eighth seed Sindhu, meanwhile, defeated Japan’s Aya Ohori 21-16, 21-14 in just 31 minutes.
