The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has increased the dietary allowances for 7479 residential trainees under various sports promotion schemes.

The daily allowance for each trainee under Army Boys Sports Companies (ABSC), SAI Training Centres (STCs) and Special Area Games (SAGs) schemes in special category states (North East, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal) had been increased from Rs 140 to Rs 200. For the remaining states and union territories, it had been hiked from Rs 125 to Rs 175.

For trainees in Centres of Excellence, the allowance has been raised from Rs 175 to Rs 225 per day. Under the National Sports Talent Contest, the present allowance of Rs 125 has been increased Rs 175. The increase in allowances will come into effect from March 1.
