Jiji Thomson has been named the new director-general of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and will officially take charge on Friday.

Thomson, who is currently on central government deputation with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, will replace acting DG Gopal Krishna, who has been transferred to the Ministry of Law and Justice as joint secretary.

Thomson, a 1980 batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, has served in the sports ministry as director of sports in the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee and as officer on special duty on the committee for a few months before that. — Special Correspondent
