The 113-year-old Calcutta Football League (CFL) received a big support with its sponsor Sahara India Pariwar renewing its patronage for another term of five years. Announcing the extension of the sponsorship on Thursday, the governing body of the sport in the State — Indian Football Association (IFA) — said there would be greater promotion of the tournament to revive its glory.
Despite being the biggest State league in the country with seven divisions and more than 150 teams playing, CFL has lost some of its significance over the years and the IFA is looking to revive it with the renewal of the partnership. Having launched a new format in the tournament this year, the IFA announced it would be reaching out in a bigger way to enhance the popularity of the tournament.
