Former Asian junior champion Rutuja Bhosale got off to a flying start as she blanked Olla Mourad of Qatar 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the girls’ singles in tennis in the Asian Youth Games on Saturday. She will meet top seed Hsu Ching-Wen of Chinese Taipei in the pre-quarterfinals.

Simran Kaur Sethi, seeded sixth, will play Anastassiya Yepisheva of Kazakhstan in the pre-quarterfinals after getting a bye in the first round.

In the boys’ section, Garvit Batra beat Abdulla Ahli of UAE 6-0, 6-0 to set up a pre-quarterfinal against seven seed Qiu Zhuoyang of China.

Incidentally, the Indian players have been entered as “Independent Olympic Athletes’’ by the Olympic Council of Asia.
