Sidhartha comes up trumps

S. Sidhartha tallied 71 for the top spot in gross category of the K’sirs Trophy golf tournament, played on a medal round format, at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club course in Chettipalayam here on Sunday.

R. Gopinath, with a score of 76, wrested the second slot. D. Balakrishnan (71) emerged winner in the nett (+1-14) category.

The results:

Gross (+2-24): 1. S. Sidhartha 71; 2. R. Gopinath 76.

Nett (+1-14): 1. D. Balakrishnan 71; 2. Joseph Chakola 74. 15-24: 1. N. Ramesh 71; 2. V. Jayaraman 72.

Dhiliesh bags four

S. Dhiliesh picked four for 16 in Rainbow 1972 MMCC’ seven-wicket win over SNR Sons College in the TNCA-CDCA second division league for the Universal Heat Exchangers Trophy on Sunday.

After restricting SNR Sons to 83 for nine in 25 overs, Rainbow 1972 scored the required runs in a shade less than 19 overs.

II div: (Universal Heat Exchangers Trophy): SNR Sons College 83 for nine in 25 overs (S. Dhilesh four for 16) lost to Rainbow 1972 MMCC 85 for three in 18.2 overs (S. Senthamizh Selvan 44).

III div: (N. Damodharan Trophy): Kaleeswara CC 83 in 32 overs (E. Goutham three for 3) lost to Suryabala Cricketers 84 for no loss in 13 overs (R. Kathir Velu 62 not out).

JSS IS prevails

JSS International School posted a five-wicket win over St. Joseph’s Boys AIHSS (Coonoor) in the NDCA under-16 inter-school cricket tournament for the Azhar Hassan Memorial Rolling Trophy at Udhagamandalam recently.

The scores:

St. Joseph’s Boys AIHSS 163 for nine in 40 overs (M. Tamilselvan 40, Sankruth Sriram four for 32, Vignesh N. Patel three for 28) lost to JSS IS 164 for five in 28.3 overs (Mohammed Rafees 48, Sankruth Sriram 43, S. Karnesh Kumar three for 36).

Nilgiris CC wins

Nilgiris Cricket Club defeated Kents Cricket Club by six wickets in the Nilgiris DCA P. Suresh Memorial Rolling Trophy T20 tournament recently.

The scores: Kents CC 139 for eight in 20 overs (D. Mallikanth 46) lost to Nilgiris CC 140 for four in 19.4 overs (R. Karunakaran 40).

Dhanasekar is champion

Ninth seed K. Dhanasekar of Tamil Nadu finished on top with eight points at the end of nine rounds and won the VINS Engineering International FIDE-rating chess tournament at the VINS Christian CE here on Monday.

He defeated eighth seed Tamil Nadu’s S. Kumar in the final round.

Top seed Sa. Kannan, also of Tamil Nadu, had to be content with second place with 7.5 points. He edged out S. Sathyanarayanan and Hemanth Raam, both from Tamil Nadu, who also finished with 7.5 points, on the basis of a better tie-break score.

Chennai Cricket Coaching Centre (CCCC) defeated RKVCA by 48 runs to win the Master V. Eluparithy Memorial Trophy in the South India-level inter-academy under-14 cricket tournament here recently.

Final: CCCC 177 for five in 30 overs (Y. Smeet 50, S. Akash 43, S. Suriya 41 n.o., S.R. Arumuga Vignesh three for 26) bt RKVCA 129 for six in 30 overs (S. Roshan Antony 33).
