Tvm wins title

Thiruvananthapuram (281 points) won the overall title in the South Zone School Games which concluded here on Wednesday. Ernakulam (243 points) and Kottayam (128 points) came second and third respectively.

Thiruvananthapuram swept the titles in tennis, ball badminton and also won the boys' football trophy. Ernakulam girls won the football title on the final day. In chess, M. Abhijith of Ernakulam won the title in the boys’ section while V.M. Arda of Kollam took the honours in the girls’ category.

Kerala in final

Host Kerala will meet Maharashtra in the final of the all-India BSNL football tournament on Thursday.

In the semifinal on Wednesday, Kerala defeated Punjab 2-0 through goals from K. Sunil Kumar and Shabeer.

Maharasthra beat Karnataka by the same margin in the other semifinal. Souvaid and Hussain were the goal-scorers for the winner.

Sujith scalps four

V. Sujith’s four-wicket haul helped Thrissur’s Oktopals CC crush Kochi’s Chittoor CC by 132 runs in the K.T. Kerala Varma memorial Pooja knockout qualifying cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Wednesday.

The scores: Oktopals CC, Thrissur 193 for eight in 26 overs (M. Murali 35, P. Rahul 38, R. Babu 40, K.G. Chinju three for 41) bt Chittoor CC, Kochi 61 in 13 overs (V. Sujith four for 22). Pachalam CC 131 in 17.3 overs (C.S. Sreejith 44, P.A. Fasal three for 23) lost to Globstar Telecom, Aluva 132 for four in 17.5 overs (Raji Lal 70 n.o.).

District table tennis

The Ernakulam district table tennis championship will be held at Regional Sports Centre, Kadavanthara, on October 19 and 20.

Competition, in singles, will be conducted for men, women and for boys and girls in the youth, junior, sub-junior, cadet and mini-cadet categories. An inter-school event for boys and girls will also be held simultaneously.
