Ribin sparkles

Ribin picked four wickets for 14 runs as North Paravur’s Young Challengers CC crushed Kochi’s Scorpions CC by 10 wickets in the second K.T. Kerala Varma memorial Pooja knockout qualifying tournament here on Tuesday.

The scores: Scorpions CC, Kochi 57 in 19.4 overs (Ribin four for 14, Sadam three for 5) lost to Young Challengers, North Paravur 61 for no loss in 12.1 overs.

Palace CC 109 for nine in 26.2 overs (O. George three for 10) lost to Pachalam CC 111 for seven in 24 overs (Sreejish 53).

Double for Don Bosco

Don Bosco (Vaduthala, Kochi) defeated Thiruvananthapuram’s Christ Nagar 67-13 and won the ICSE-ISC Kerala State schools basketball championship for the 10th consecutive time at the Sarvodaya Vidhyalaya here. Don Bosco also won the junior boys’ title, beating Mavelikkara’s Infant Jesus 55-18, but lost to Irinjalakulam’s Christ Vidyaniketan 40-3 in the girls’ final.

Thiruvananthapuram District TT from Saturday

The Thiruvananthapuram District table tennis championship will be held at the YMCA hall on October 5 and 6. Competition will be held in mini cadet, cadet, sub-junior, junior, youth, men and women sections respectively.

Those who wish to take part in the age group events should bring their original birth certificates as proof of age. Entries may be sent to R. Rajesh, secretary TDTTA. House no 52, Prem Nagar, Killipalam, Thiruvananthapuram. Phone (9595701700, 9446455098).

An inter-club championship will also be held along with the District championships. The team championship will be held in Davis Cup format and only one team from a club/institution affiliated to TDTTA can take part in the tournament. The inter-club tournament will be held on October 6.

Natl. youth chess from today

The National youth chess opens at the Calicut University Seminar Hall on Wednesday. More than 100 players are expected to compete in the nine-round tourney. The championship, which carries a total prize-fund of Rs. 1,25,000 concludes on Oct. 8.
