Raja scalps six

Combined XI rode on Raja Gala’s six for 49 to overcome Secretary’s XI and enter the final of the KSCA inter-zonal tournament (under-19) here on Sunday. Combined XI progressed by virtue of the first-innings lead after the opponent, 71 for six overnight, was dismissed for 110.

For the title, Combined XI will face Mofussil XI, who prevailed over President’s XI in the other semifinal.

The scores: Semifinals: Mofussil XI 226 in 59.5 overs and 193 in 62.1 overs (Sounak Biswas 81, D. Avinash 41, Pavan Raj 25, Santrupth Chandra three for 34, R.S. Karthikeyan three for 51) drew with President’s XI 53 for eight decl. in 30 overs and 14 for one in six overs.

Combined XI 309 in 70.3 overs (K.N. Bharath 86, Shashank Mittal 41, V. Pranav 38, K.L. Srijith 33, S. Rakshith 27, Vyshak Vijayakumar five for 105) and 131 for five decl. in 43 overs (Tilak Karthik 53, K.L. Srijith 39) drew with Secretary’s XI 110 in 29.1 overs (Vyshak Vijayakumar 35, Raja Gala six for 49, Pratheek Jain three for 38) and 90 for three in 24.3 overs (Abhinav Manohar 50 n.o.).

Play-offs for 5, 6, 7, and 8th positions: Zone XI 105 in 72.1 overs and 112 in 57.5 overs (Abhyudaya 36, Sachin Gankal five for 27, Nikhil Naik three for 15) lost to Bangalore City XI 254 for seven decl. in 63 overs (Abhishek Reddy 150 n.o., M.R. Sachin 31).

Bangalore Zone 230 for seven in 90 overs and 139 for six in 51 overs (A.P. Abhishek 101 n.o., Karan three for 41) drew with Combined Mofussil XI 55 in 34.3 overs (Adhoksh Hegde three for 16, Umang Chordia three for 17).

Nitin and Manya top seeded

Nitin Kirtane and Manya Nagpal will start as top seeds when the main draw of the DS Max Top Spin AITA tennis championship gets underway at the KSLTA Stadium here from Tuesday.

Sharmada Balu, the women’s top seed as per the original acceptance list, has withdrawn from the event. On the men’s side, P.C. Vignesh, the initial second seed, and Ashwin Vijayaraghavan have pulled out.

The main draw was originally scheduled to begin on Monday but with qualifying matches spilling over, it will commence a day later.

Raising Star wins

An inspired performance by Supradeep (20 points) helped Raising Star score a 62-51 win over Protec SC in the final of the men’s section in the Pro-Tec Cup 2013 district-level basketball tournament, which concluded at the Subbarayanakere courts here on Sunday. Divyananda (15) was the standout for the losing side.

Smt. Rani and KS Sathish, president, Pro-Tec Association, gave away the prizes.

Men’s: Final: Raising Star 62 (Supradeep 20) bt Protec 51 (Divyananda 15); League: Protec SC 47 (Divyananda 14) bt Aryans 42 (Nakul 10); Raising Star 40 (Supradeep 17) bt Protec Challengers 20 (Darshan 8).
