D.B. Ravi Teja will lead Hyderabad in the first two matches of its Ranji Trophy (Plate Group) campaign, against Jharkhand and Maharashtra, to be held here, D.S. Chalapathi, secretary of Hyderabad Cricket Association, said here.

The selection committee, which met here on Thursday, also recalled former captain N. Arjun Yadav, but ignored dashing opener T. Suman once again.

The other surprise omission was the in-form left-arm spinner Lalit Mohan, the main wicket-taker in the Buchi Babu tournament in Chennai. Syed Mehdi Hasan replaces him for the two Ranji games.

The first match commences at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal) here on November 3 and the second one from Nov. 13. The team has to report to Hyderabad Ranji coach Sunil Joshi on Friday.

The HCA secretary's statement also said that V.V.S. Laxman would captain the side whenever he is available to play.

“Since Laxman and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha are expected to play for India in the Test series against the West Indies, we have not included them in this squad. But, if they are available, they will be automatic choices,” said Abdul Azeem, chairman of the selection committee.

The squad:

D.B. Ravi Teja (capt.), P. Akshath Reddy, G.H. Vihari, B. Sandeep, N. Arjun Yadav, Ahmed Quadri, Ibrahim Khaleel, Anwar Ahmed, Mehdi Hasan, Kaneshkk Naidu, Praneet Kumar, Ashish Reddy, Vishal Sharma and Paramveer Singh.
