Rathin Kalose and Aditi Nandi claimed the cadet boys and girls’ singles titles respectively on the opening day of the Ultratech Cements sponsored State-ranking table tennis tournament at the Rail Club hall here on Friday.

Rathin defeated Tejas Jewoor in a five-game thriller 4-11, 11-7, 5-11, 15-13, 11-9 while Aditi too was taken the distance before prevailing over M. Aanargya in extra points in the decider at 11-9, 7-11, 10-12, 13-11, 12-10.

Brace by Kaushik

Dhyanchand HC (Tumkur), thanks to a brace by Kaushik, downed Sahyadri HC (Shimoga) 3-1 in a C-division hockey league encounter here on Friday.

Deepak got the winner off to an early start netting in the third minute before Syed Mazhar equalised in the ninth for the Shimoga side. However, Kaushik found the target in the 19th and 48th minutes to ensure full points.

Earlier, Major Dhyanchand HC blanked Kaveri SC 3-0 with Divakar (2) and I.G. Mahesh slotting in.

Jain University takes crown

Jain University won the Colosseum 2013-2014 men’s basketball tournament, a State-level inter-collegiate basketball tournament held at Belgaum from October 7 to 10.

In the final, Jain beat host Gogte Institute of Technology 72-32.

The result: Jain University 72 (Kaif 22, Chetan 25) bt Gogte Inst. Of Technology 32 (Rohit 14).

Ajay, Amogha

in title clash

Top seed C.D. Ajay of Kine Electro Line entered the final of the G & C inter-corporate tennis championship here on Friday.

In the open singles semifinal, Ajay defeated Prateek of Misys 6-3, 6-2 and will take on Amogha of HP in the final. Amogha ousted Varun of Citrix 6-4, 6-4 in the other semifinal.

MLA College wins

Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College won the Bangalore University Inter-collegiate women’s kabaddi championship, hosted by V D Homse Science College here on Wednesday and Thursday (October 9 and 10).

In the final the MLA College girls triumphed over Maharani’s Arts, Commerce and Management Studies with a 35-19 score-line.
