Madrid: Jyoti Randhawa climbed to 12th on the European Order of Merit after his superb second place finish at the Open de Espana.
The Indian star who returned to competition after a long break, during which his wife, Tina gave birth to their first child, is slowly inching towards a top-50 spot in world rankings.
Randhawa's impressive show here earned him euros 222,220. He now has over Euros 441,00 in nine starts, five of which have fetched him top-10 finishes.
"I thought I had shot myself out of contention in the first round. But I knew I only had one really bad hole so I just kept plugging away," said Randhawa.
"It was disappointing to miss out, but after the first day (75) I was proud to have fought like that with three good rounds," said Randhawa, who enjoyed his fifth top-10 finish at the 2007 European Tour season.
Ranked 88th before this week, Randhawa is expected to move inside top-70 of the world rankings and make it his best ever, which previously was 73rd. The highest placed Indian, Jeev Milkha Singh occupies 51st spot in world rankings. PTI
