Former India captain Magan Singh Rajwi has called for support from the Government to improve the standard of Indian football.
“The government should support football in whatever way it can,” he said at a meet-the-press programme here on Thursday. “Children should be encouraged to play football from their school days. And footballers should be given government jobs.”
Magan Singh, who was here to inaugurate the E.K. Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup all-India football tournament that gets underway on Friday, said the death of such tournaments was one of the main reasons for the decline of Indian football.
“It is great to be back in this city,” he said. “I loved playing here, as the crowds encourage good football, regardless of the teams.” — Principal Correspondent
