Raj Randhawa shot a five-under 67 to emerge as the surprise leader ahead of two former Indian Open champions Vijay Kumar (68) and Jyoti Randhawa (69) in the opening round of the Rs. 25-lakh PGTI Players championship at the Classic Golf Resort at Mewat, Haryana, on Tuesday.
On a day when play was suspended just before 2 p.m. and finally called off at 5 p.m., Raj sank eight birdies to return his best card as a professional. From the 11th hole, he reeled off five birdies on the trot.
Since only 66 out of 126 golfers completed the round, the unfinished first round will resume at 7.15 a.m. on Wednesday while the second round has been re-scheduled to start at 9.45 a.m.
