COIMBATORE: Bangalore boys Rahul Ravi and Trishul Chinnappa returned with identical cards of five-over 77 and shared the top berth in Category ‘A' (16-18 years) on the opening day of the Toyota Etios Southern India junior tour, the official National ranking tour of the Indian Golf Union, at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club course in Chettipalayam, near here, on Tuesday.
Rahul shot a birdie and an eagle in the front nine but slipped a bit with bogeys on the last two holes. Trishul enjoyed a similar start with two birdies on the front nine but back-to-back birdies (15th & 16th) on his return journey cost him dear.
Chandigarh's Tarundeep Chadha, the winner of the first two legs in Delhi and Panchkula, was three strokes behind at 80.
In Category ‘B' (14-16), Tapendra Ghei of Delhi had a one-stroke lead over his nearest rival and teammate Honey Baisoya. The Delhi youngster returned a card of 10-over par 82 for the top spot.
Viraj Madappa from Tollyganj Golf Club, Kolkata, grabbed the prime spot in Category ‘C' (12-14) from Piyush Sangwan of DLF GC. The former returned a seven-over par 79 to the latter's 80. — Sports Reporter
