Chinese diving duo Qin Kai and He Chong combined for gold in the men's 3m synchronised springboard event on Tuesday as the Asian heavyweight continued to dominate on the fourth day of diving action in Barcelona.
Qin and He racked up 448.86 points to finish well clear of the Russian pair of Evgeny Kuznetsov and Ilia Zakharov in second and Mexicans Jahir Ocampo and Rommel Pacheco in third.
China has now won five of the six events so far in the Catalan capital and its incredible record in the 3m synchronised springboard World championship final was never in doubt thanks to the professional performance of the experienced Qin and He.
The duo now has a haul of 10 World championship gold medals between them, along with three Olympic golds and He believes they are well-placed to team up for another shot at glory at the Rio Olympics in three years' time.
“We already perform very difficult combinations and we don't want to change too much before the Olympics,” he said.
“Otherwise, it will be very complicated to maintain the same quality and consistency.”
The results: Men: 3m synchronised springboard: 1. Qin Kai & He Chng (Chn) 448.86 pts, 2. Evgeny Kuznetsov/Ilia Zakharov (Rus) 428.01, 3. Jahir Ocampo & Rommel Pacheco (Mex) 422.79. — Agencies
