DEHRADUN: Poojashree Venkatesh and Rushmi Chakravarthi kept the hopes alive as they made the semifinals of the ONGC $10,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the Shanti Academy here on Thursday.
The top-seeded Poojashree, who has won three titles at his level in recent months, including one recently in Bangalore, outclassed compatriot Sweta Kumari Solanki for the loss of four games. She will be challenged by the fourth-seeded Miki Miyamura of Japan in the semifinals.
The sixth-seeded Rushmi, the champion last week in Delhi, had dropped only one game against the third-seeded Anastasia Malhotra of Japan when the latter retired early in the second set. Rushmi will face another Japanese, Moe Kawatoko, who knocked out the second-seeded Kyung-Yee Chae of Korea in straight sets.
