GURGAON: Nineteen-year-old Pornanong Phatlum warded off a strong challenge from her nearest rival Hae Jung Kim to retain her title in the $120,000 DLF women’s Indian Open tournament at the DLF Golf and Country Club here on Friday.

Korean Kim gave Phatlum a run for her money before the Thai brought in emphatic four-under 68 in the last round and emerge triumphant with a total of eight-under 208. Kim, with her last round of two-under 70, aggregated six-under 210 for the second place.

The two, tied at the top spot in the penultimate round, provided the gallery a thrilling contest on the final day. “I am very happy with my performance here and I dedicate the win to my coach and my family,” said a smiling Phatlum, who has got a partial card for the US Tour this season. She pocketed $14,000 for the victory.

Nalini Singh Siwach was the best Indian golfer of the tournament. With her last round of one-over 73, she totalled a six-over 222 to share the 11th spot. Gauri Monga managed a two-over on the final day to finish tied-13th.
