KANNUR: Defending champion Pathanamthitta boys entered the semifinals of the Kerala State youth basketball championships at the Marygiri Senior Secondary School courts here on Monday.
Pathanamthitta defeated host Kannur 67-50 in the quarterfinals after leading 37-28 at half-time. Arun K. Thomas (27 points) top-scored for the winner, while Sudeesh Surendran (14) played his heart out for Kannur.
Thrissur and Ernakulam also made it to the last four in the boys’ section. Thrissur defeated Palakkad 34-12, while Ernakulam crushed Malappuram 50-15 in the quarterfinals.
In the girls’ category, Thrissur, Kollam and Kannur moved into the semifinals. Thrissur registered an easy 34-19 win over Alappuzha, while Kannur was too strong for Pathanamthitta, winning 34-12.
Kollam made the grade with a 39-20 verdict over Kasaragod.
