Flagstaff (U.S.): Indian shot putter Om Prakash Singh started his preparation for this year’s Commonwealth Games with a bronze medal at Mountain T’s Indoor meet here.

Om Prakash, the current Asian champion, tossed the iron ball to a new indoor personal best of 19.37m.

American shot putters Ryan Whiting (20.57m) and Russ Winger (19.56m) took the first two places.

Om Prakash cleared 20.02m, the third all-time best by an Indian, while winning the inter-State championships at Chennai last year.

However, he missed the best Indian mark at Indoors (19.60m) held by Vikas Gowda at Chapel Hill, U.S., since 2005. — PTI
