Nepal made history when it qualified for a major ICC event for the first time, progressing to next year’s World T20 Championships with a five-wicket victory over Hong Kong in the qualifiers here.
Chasing 144 for victory, Nepal needed 13 in the final over. Sharad Vesawkar smashed Haseeb Amjad for a six and four off the first two balls. However, Amjad came back strongly to concede just two more runs off the next three deliveries.
With the scores tied, a misfield off the final delivery allowed Vesawkar to scamper home a single.
United Arab Emirates (UAE), too, qualified after successfully defending a modest score of 118 against the Netherlands. UAE won by 10 runs.
In the other matches of the day, Papua New Guinea beat Namibia by 25 runs and Scotland defeated Italy by seven wickets. — PTI
