The 14th National cities chess championship begins at the YMCA Hall here on Saturday.
Around 20 teams have already confirmed their entries, and the organisers have extended the deadline by a day in the hope of getting more entries.

The eight-round, six-day event, jointly organised by the chess association of Kerala and Kottayam, the Kottayam YMCA and the Karippaparambil family, carries a prize fund of Rs. 1.5 lakh, with the winner receiving Rs. 40,000.
