The AITA National series R.T. Narayan Memorial Cup (under-16) tennis tournament for boys and girls will commence here on December 9.

The tournament will be held to honour the contribution made by R.T. Narayan to tennis in the state. Narayan, who passed away recently at the age of 72, was a mentor to the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association’s executive committee.

“The progress made by the KSLTA in the past 15 years has been amazing. R.T. Narayan was instrumental in making all this possible; his contribution is acknowledged by everyone,” said KSLTA secretary C.S. Sunder Raju at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The tournament is sponsored by Narayan’s daughter Ramya, an actor and Member of Parliament. “He spent many days helping the KSLTA organise their tournaments. I want to step into his shoes and continue his contribution to tennis,” she said. — Sports Reporter
